Two-Bay Firewood Stand
A 6-foot open firewood rack on the same 4-post farm stand frame — shed roof that sheds rain out the back, raised 2×4 floor runners keep a half-cord up off the dirt, optional gapped back wall blocks wind-driven rain. Build it in an afternoon.

Actual lumber: a 2×4 is 2 in × 4 in — found at a local private sawmill. Nominal: a 2×4 is 1.5 in × 3.5 in — found at most chain hardware/lumber stores.
Wet, unseasoned wood is the number-one reason a stove smokes and a fire won’t catch. This firewood stand fixes that the simple way — it gets your split wood up off the ground, under a roof, and into moving air so it can dry. Stack green wood in the spring and you’ll have seasoned, ready-to-burn firewood by fall.
It’s built on the same 4-post frame as our farm stand: four 4×4 posts, a pair of full-width 4×4 headers, and a single-slope shed roof (front-high to back-low) that sheds rain and snowmelt off the back instead of soaking the pile. The rafters and roof deck are identical — if you’ve built the market stand, you already know this frame.
The sides are left wide open on purpose: airflow is what dries wood, so anything that blocks the breeze works against you. Down low, two pressure-treated 4×4 sleepers sit on the ground and carry eight flat 2×4 runners, lifting the whole pile about 6 inches off the dirt — out of standing water and away from the bugs and rot that come up from bare ground. An optional gapped 1×4 back wall breaks wind-driven rain without sealing off the airflow.
